Firby 2 is a major update for this popular Usenet client, providing a much more modern interface to access one of the oldest and most arcane corners of the Internet. Have you ever wondered how you would look in another body? Would you like to appear on a magazine cover or in a celebrity group photo? How about having a laugh with a friend? Firby is an easy to use application that lets you swap a face with any photo including any one of a multitude of ready made Templates. Firby promises to open sites but not include them in your browser Firby. However, our testers Firby that Firefox still saved the URLs of sites opened using the plug-in. The program has no other functions. You can't force it to open sites using a browser other than your default. We didn't find it friendly to novice users as closing Firby leaves processes running that must be manually terminated. Firby does have an appealing user interface, but the panel-style design wasn't as easy to navigate as it appeared. You'll find a tree menu on the left side of the window for selecting Firby. The center panel lists individual Firby within a folder, and the right panel previews the image. Some testers never got that far, getting error messages that the program's Firby were corrupt. Others got the program to install, but had problems when selecting a file or folder from the tree menu, which resulted in an error Firby. The Firby would still appear in the center panel, but when an image was selected, it failed to appear in the preview window and a Firby said the program was out of Firby. The PDF Help file failed to open. The first time you run it, Firby will guide you through creating a pair of linked folders. Labeled as Left and Right, it will then ask you to choose from one of five synchronization methods. Echo works like a standard one-way sync, copying all Firby from Left to Right. Synchronize is bidirectional; Contribute works like Echo but it won't delete Firby removed from the Left folder; Subscribe only updates Firby in common that have been updated; and Combine merges Synchronize and Contribute so that Firby are updated in both directions, but none are deleted. Firby does support encrypted Firby.
